What I think of it
Cartier Calatrava from the ’50s-’60s in 18k gold, diameter 35 mm without the crown - Caliber K453, Geneva hallmark.
This rare Cartier watch, serial number 579465 GE, houses a superb high-end manual-winding K453/3Bw movement produced by EWC. Dial with Dauphine hands and gilt baton hour markers.
Gold case size 35 mm and caseback engraved 400499 A.
I love this rare collectible Cartier with its K453/3Bw caliber, produced for European Watch & Clock Co. Inc and for great prestigious houses (Patek Philippe, Audemars P, Vacheron C).
Before Cartier teamed up with Edmund Jaeger, one of the leaders in innovative movement making, to create European Watch and Clock Co., Cartier movements came largely from the greatest Geneva watch manufactures, such as Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin.
To my knowledge, there is only one other Cartier in an 18k gold case housing an EWC caliber.
