What I think of it
A Croton (Nivada) chronograph from the early ’50s, with a Venus 210 caliber and its Clamshell case!
The Venus 210 was a cam-actuated chronograph movement, unlike the Venus 188. It was reduced to 12.5 lignes (28.2 mm) in diameter. However, its operation was identical to the Venus 211 caliber, with its unusual big date complication. The Venus 210 caliber was introduced in 1953 and discontinued around 1963.
This collectible Swiss chronograph is a “Pre aviator- Sea diver”; its distinctive feature is the design of its snap-shut steel case, for better water resistance. Called “Clamshell” by purists, the 2 parts of the case fit together from the back of the watch and are then secured by 4 screws.
Its size of 34.5 mm excluding the crown makes it almost a BABY chronograph, so sought after by some collectors; the dial is in very good condition for a watch from the early ’50s.
