Leonidas “Big Eyes” Chronograph – ’50s

A Swiss chronograph from the ’50s, in its most sought-after configuration.

Before merging with Heuer in 1964, Leonidas was one of the most respected watch houses in Saint-Imier, renowned for its robust and precise chronographs. This model is a fine example. Its large “Big Eyes” counters give it remarkable legibility and a strong presence on the wrist.

The silver dial features Arabic numerals, leaf hands and a tachymeter scale with red graduations. It is balanced by two generous counters: the small seconds at 9 o’clock and the minute totalizer at 3 o’clock. The 37.5 mm steel case has ideal proportions, both true to the period and perfectly wearable today. Round pushers and a fluted crown complete the picture.

The manual-winding mechanical movement is clean and works perfectly: running, start, stop and reset of the chronograph.
