What I check before a watch is listed
I have fifteen years of experience in watches, eight of them in Geneva, and Chronostyle has existed since 2022. Every watch passes through my hands before it is listed. I open it, inspect it, and have it serviced; if it does not convince me, it is not sold.
Each watch comes with a one-year warranty. The brands I work with include Rolex, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, Omega, Breitling, TAG Heuer and Universal Genève.
Shipping to Calgary and duties
Shipping to Canada costs €150 and takes about 3 to 6 business days from dispatch. The watch is sent by DHL Express, insured for its full value, in discreet packaging, and handed over against signature.
Customs duties, import VAT or local taxes, and the carrier’s clearance fees are payable by you directly to DHL on delivery. They are not included in the price of the watch or in the shipping cost, and they depend on the country, the value and the origin of the watch. I always declare the watch at its real value and with its true origin.
What to look for in a pre-owned watch
When you buy at a distance, condition and originality come first. Look at the case lines, the bracelet stretch, the dial and the hands. A watch can be old and still coherent, but any replaced part should be understood and accepted, not hidden.
Service history matters, but it is not always complete. Box and papers add context and make future resale easier, yet they are not a substitute for the watch itself. Ask for clear photos of the movement and the inside of the case back when possible.
Rolex and Omega as daily wear
A robust everyday Rolex or Omega should feel right on the wrist before it impresses on paper. For a used Rolex in Calgary, I look most closely at the bracelet, the case edges and the movement, because those are the parts you live with. For an Omega, the same applies, and a recent service history helps if you plan to wear it daily.
If you are searching for pre-owned watches in Calgary, focus on honest wear rather than perfection. A lightly polished case may be fine, but original proportions matter more than a new-looking finish. On a sport model, check the crown, the clasp and the crystal; those small details tell you how the watch was used.
