What I check before a watch is sold
Every watch passes through my hands before it is listed. I open it, inspect it, and have it serviced. If it does not convince me, it is not sold. Each watch comes with a one-year warranty.
Shipping to Vancouver
Shipping to Canada is €150, insured for the full value of the watch, sent by DHL Express in discreet packaging and handed over against signature. Transit is about 3 to 6 business days from dispatch. I prepare the shipment once payment is confirmed.
Customs duties, import VAT or local taxes and the carrier's clearance fees are payable by you, directly to DHL, on delivery. They are not included in the watch price or the shipping cost, and depend on the country, value and origin. I always declare the watch at its real value and with its true origin.
What to look for in a pre-owned or vintage watch
Condition, originality, service history, and box and papers matter more than age alone. Check that the case has not been over-polished, that the dial and hands are consistent with the reference, and that the movement runs well. A recently serviced watch should feel firm in the crown and pushers.
Pre-owned watches in Vancouver are usually discussed the same way as an in-person viewing: detailed photos, honest condition notes, and no pressure. For a used Rolex in Vancouver, the questions I hear most concern dial originality, bezel condition, and bracelet stretch.
Omega and TAG Heuer sports chronographs
Many requests concern Omega and TAG Heuer sports chronographs. On these, pay attention to the pushers, the crown, the bezel action, and the dial. A chronograph should start, stop and reset cleanly, with no dragging seconds hand. Original dial, hands and bracelet make a watch easier to enjoy and to resell.
I apply the same reading when I open a watch of this kind: chronograph function first, then movement, case, dial and bracelet.
You can also see a watch by appointment at my showroom at 29 rue de la Cigogne, 45100 Orléans, France. It holds no stock; a watch from the site can be shown on request.
Thinking of selling your own watch?
I appraise watches from photos, from Vancouver or anywhere else. If we agree, the watch travels to me with a secure carrier, in a sealed package. Here is how it works.
